Berlin Portrait – Elmi

In my continuing series of portraits on people living in Berlin, my newest one is on Elmi, beautiful Elmi! The text is written by Elmi herself. I hope you love these images as much as I do.

“Today I woke up on the wrong foot. I had a bad night and must have had a lot of things on my mind, from exhaustion and constant worries of Peter’s shoulder condition that does not seem to get better. When he had the bicycle accident I was scared – and I don’t get scared very often.
The thoughts caught up with me.

I go off-kilter when I don’t work out, when I eat badly, when I don’t sleep. My mind moves a million miles an hour and I have a lot of things going on at the same time. It can be something that I just saw that sparks the creative light in me and I can linger on this thought for a while, making sure that I never finish it so that it can always remain fresh and be a safe haven that I can keep going back to. Or thoughts of my family and friends I’ve left all over the world.

But Berlin keeps me going.

I have friends here, people who makes me happy. I’ve lived in different countries before this, but not so much where one can meet a kaleidoscope of people on a whim… such a transient place, Berlin is, although I always make new friends, just like today. The Lovely Ladies of Berlin.
The name itself makes me smile.

I’m a Sagittarius and I flow to the beat of my own drum. Alas, my navigational skills. Before the smart phone I wasted time analysing and poring over routes, schedules, Plan Bs because I had no other choice…. I now leave the house and see where my phone takes me – sometimes to the wrong location; sometimes due to my own darn inability to concentrate on just one thing.

But here’s the beauty of living in Berlin:
I spontaneously discover new places, and then I fall in love with it again.”
