Having spent a good couple of years overseas, I’ve come back to Australia with a fresh appreciation for all things Aussie. Recently I took myself out one windy evening to experiment with capturing ye old gum trees, those tough, stoic creatures that keep on keeping on, even after they’ve been burnt to a crisp in a fire.
I was aiming for a kind of balance between the blur and movement of the leaves, with the stationary trunks and branches. I used a tripod for long exposures and a polarising filter to bring in the blue of the sky. It was late afternoon, so the light was quite angled and soft, and actually I’m quite happy with the luminosity of the leaves and branches, and the colour. A bit of photoshop work and Bob’s your uncle.
