Orgi#2

Friday night I went to Orgi#2. Orgi#1 was a little while ago and it’s rumoured that Orgi#3 is planned for December. A collaborative performance and installation night held by various students across different disciplines at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA). This is what art school should be about – creating and collaborating, exploring and testing new works and ideas. Here’s how they described the event:

DANCE // THEATRE // POETRY // SOUND // VIDEO ART // PERFORMANCE ART // SAUNAS // DURATIONAL
—-
FEAT: TOBIAS MANDERSON-GALVIN/BABUSHKABOT/LAURA BATCH/EMMAHALL AND EMMASMITH/NINA MULHALL/WANNABEABOI/ALICE CAVANAGH & DAVID SUMMERS & BILLY PAINE/OLIVER COLEMAN/AND MORE…

ORGI is like a happening, kind of. A bunch of artists doing their own thang, not completely polished, performing to you in dim warehouse-y hipster vibes.

BYO booze to donate to the bar (it’s a community guys)
Free entry, free bar

It totally works! I had no idea what to expect – and came away blown away by the talent in the room. Just the raw ideas, testing spaces, audience reactions, no fancy lighting, stage design or costumes. So amazing…I wanted to go to document the night for them but also to have a bit of a play visually where I could too. A bit hard with an audience, you know, shooting without being distracting, but it came together. If you live in Melbourne, and you want to see grass roots talent up close, go to Orgi#3.

 Art for art’s sake.
