Mardi Gras Sydney 2011

Have you been to Mardi Gras before? It’s held every year, in March, and is a gay and lesbian pride parade down Oxford Street, Sydney.  It’s one big massive party, with floats going down the street promoting and celebrating everything to do with the homosexual community – sexual health, being gay and proud, community groups,  you name, it, they were all there.  I’ve always wanted to go because the atmosphere looks AMAZING on television, and it sure delivered.  I was a bit cute about it and rocked up when it was starting…note to self, go a couple of hours early to get a front row position and a clear view of the parade!  Nonetheless, a great night out.  Lot’s of craziness, lot’s of police, and lot’s of atmosphere.

This reminded me of Venice.

The blue stools were selling on the street for $10 a pop. Clever.

Some people had the best view from above!

I love the orange wig! I’ve only been to Mardi Gras once, and I loved it so much! I wore a bright blue wig : ) Your photos capture the excitement and energy well. I think I’ll get back again next year…
