I Like Yours

Rosie Lockhart is in her final year of actor training at the Victorian College of the Arts. She came here with a big voice – and a great opportunity to learn what to do with it through her education at VCA in theatre and performance.

Holy wowsers – look out here comes Rosie.

What you see here is the simplicity of an idea and its execution. This is what I imagine it’s like putting together a short film, although the content is the still image, not the moving image. That said, its evolution is very much reliant on collaboration and allowing time and space for the concept to evolve into the final piece. Rosie came to it with an idea, a message, something to say, through her performance.  My role was to bring her idea to fruition in a short piece that showcased not only her idea, but also her talents and versatility in singing and performance.

Initially we chatted on the phone to gather the basic ideas for location, clothing and idea.
Then we got together at the Malthouse Theatre, the location of inspiration for the piece.
Over a coffee we thrashed the idea out a bit further.
Rosie performed and I captured her story.
The audio was recorded live in the space as we were keen to capture a rawness in the unproduced voice.

Below is a small sample of the images we captured, at the bottom is the entire short movie.

We hope you love it…we sure do…

Thank you Rosie it was super fun. This collaboration has stretched me as an artist – and I love that because it’s always important to keep growing and trying new things creatively. You delivered a stellar improvisation and your singing is just gorgeous. Good luck!

Lovely feedback from Rosie…

‘Thanks for being so wonderful to collaborate with, Beth. You truly are very talented with a sensitive ‘eye’ for what a piece ‘needs’ & that’s what making good art is all about. So thank YOU.’

Shucks…thank you Rosie!!

She is beautiful, isn’t she? This is a show reel – a piece that showcases the actor – and by default showcases my work and way of seeing too. The perfect blend! She is amazing, though, isn’t she?!
