Sometimes, it’s good to shoot, just for the sake of it. To practice your craft, to approach a new challenge, to see what you can do in a new situation. I met Pete early on here in Berlin, and he invited me to come along to the next boxing training session that he attends and trains at every week. Sure, I said, sounds like fun. A great experience! I went in there feeling a bit alarmed by all the noise and heat and yelling…and punching! Well, it’s not my kind of thing, but boxing itself is still an interesting subject to approach. I didn’t want to capture the usual frames of people in the ring. I wanted to try to get the sweat, the exhaustion, the exertion of power…here’s what I experienced.
A huge boxing mascot welcomed me at the door.
No trouble that I knew where I was.
On my way in I took a look back over my shoulder…crikey.
Pete introduced me then I got stuck straight into it.
Besides the smell of deep heat and humidity, it was the sweat that permeated the room.
The boxing is all about technique and fitness… unbelievable fitness.
Talk about a work out.
Boxing also requires incredible focus and concentration.
And a fair amount of torture!
Ah, but they all get along, just regular people!
Boxtempel Berlin sleeps quietly, waiting for its next victims.
Thanks so much Pete, for the invitation, and to all the people there that happily let me photograph them in action.
