Bauhaus Dessau

Today I hosted an event on my group Photography in Berlin to Dessau, a couple of hours by train from Berlin. Dessau is home to the Bauhaus – literally ‘to build’ and ‘house’. But so much more than that, the Bauhaus, was established in 1919 by architect Walter Gropius in Weimar, in reaction to the industrial age. Function, without compromising form, and form, without compromising function. It had far reaching influence over art, architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, and typography. Basically, when you think Art Deco – look up the Bauhaus and you’ll join a few dots.

The Kornhaus

A lovely day was had, exploring the Bauhaus, and the town of Dessau. We wandered down the road for half an hour, past some fields and houses and came across the Kornhaus, unfortunately long since closed but at least had a little food cart outside to save us. Then back into town, wandering through the central park that forms part of a 25kms wider network of public gardens called the Garden Realm. We may come back again to see one 20 kms away from Dessau, in Woerlitz.
