Kulturhaus

Berlin is full of modern day ruins. Where many cities bull dozed old buildings to make way for the new, in some cases in Berlin that just didn’t happen. Namely because there was no money to knock down and start again. So now the city is an ecclectic mix of old, new and everything in between. The Kulturhaus is a place I discovered last year. It’s a huge area, once industrial and used as a railway repair yard. The trains are long gone and now all the buildings have adopted various uses. The remaining walls serve as artists canvases, some parts are just dumping grounds, other parts are converted into a beer garden, an outdoor cinema, clubs, bars and a cafe. Night and day it’s bloody fantastic, depending on what you want to do. When you first arrive it has an eerie feeling about it, being in this ruined, run down state. Brilliant pictures and an extremely inspiring place. My fav one: the one with an armchair. If I were to shoot a movie, it would be there.
