Welcome to Conquering the Camera.
What’s ‘Conquering the Camera’ I hear you say? It’s your opportunity to take the next step in your photographic knowledge.
You made the switch to digital, maybe you bought a little point and shoot back in the day. Then maybe you started to get a little frustrated with it – not enough image quality, not enough lens quality, the shutter release was too slow…so you made the big step, you bought a digital SLR – a Single Lens Reflex camera. You might have bought it with the standard 50mm lens, or maybe you bought a kit and it has a zoom lens. Then you wanted to shoot low light so you bought a tripod and maybe a flash unit…and now all of a sudden you have a photographic kit.
Maybe it’s time to get the most out of it? You want to get your settings off auto, and you’re not quite sure how to do it? You want to take a great portrait, but don’t know where to start? Maybe it’s the lighting? Which aperture do you need? What does aperture mean anyway??
This 3 hour seminar is for you if you have a decent camera, understand some principles, but want to get it all working better.

You’ll contribute to the content so no time is wasted, and that way you’ll get the most bang for your buck.
Why am I introducing this? Over the years I’ve helped lots of people learn more about photography, and it’s a great feeling to help someone improve. Back in January I talked with Trish about how she would best approach her first wedding, and she tells me that made all the difference, and helped her know where to focus her energy on the day. Years ago I mentored Leonie Keogh of Snowgum Studio fame as well. I was also recently asked by a Canberra Institute of Technology photography student if I was interested to be her mentor…so maybe it’s in the blood, I’m not sure yet! But I do know that I have 15 years of accumulated knowledge in photography, I’ve had three years formal training, years shooting client work and made the successful self-taught transition to digital…so if I can do all that, then there must be something of that to be shared with you.
Looking forward to seeing you on your way to making better pictures!
